The digital media design and production team design and produce: eBooks, apps, and other multimedia for learning and teaching. This helps support the movement towards a “flipped classroom” approach, where students are provided with the paper handbook, course content, and associated learning resources on a mobile device at the start of semester, and then engage in dynamic group discussions and exercises in the classroom setting throughout the semester.

The App Lab
The digital media team also work as a part of the APP LAB which is a cross disciplinary group of staff and students exploring new ways of learning through technology and new media. The APP LAB was formed in collaboration between AUT’s Centre for Learning & Teaching (CfLAT), the Faculty of Māori & Indigenous Development (Te Ara Poutama) and the School of Art & Design. Their focus is on designing and creating apps for a range of educational contexts, including course delivery and academic programme support, discipline-based services across AUT’s faculties, schools and departments, and internal and external research and development related projects. The team work closely with students offering them the chance to work on real-world projects where they can apply and develop their digital capabilities supported by an experienced development team.
